Simponi Aria (golimumab) is an injectable prescription medication used to treat several autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Who Should Consider Simponi Aria? Simponi Aria is suitable for adults who:

How is Simponi Aria Administered? Simponi Aria is administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion. Simponi Autoinject is available for subcutaneous injection and common sites to inject include abdomen and thighs. The injection is done every month for self administration.

Medication Warnings

  • Infections: Simponi Aria can weaken the immune system, significantly increasing the risk of serious infections. Report any signs of infection to your healthcare provider immediately.
  • Allergic Reactions: Some patients may experience severe allergic reactions during or after the infusion. Immediate medical attention is required for symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, or swelling.
  • Heart Failure: Patients with existing heart failure should be closely monitored as Simponi Aria can cause new onset or worsening of heart failure symptoms.
  • Liver Injury: Rare cases of severe liver injury have been reported. Patients should report any symptoms such as jaundice, severe fatigue, or abdominal pain.
  • Cancer: Long-term use of TNF blockers, including Simponi Aria, may increase the risk of lymphoma and other cancers.

Who Should and Shouldn’t Take Simponi Aria?

  • Suitable Candidates:
    • Individuals with certain autoimmune diseases who have not responded to standard therapies.
  • Unsuitable Candidates:
    • Individuals with severe, active infections.
    • Patients with known hypersensitivity to golimumab or any components of the formulation.
    • Those with moderate to severe heart failure or significant liver disease.
